I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the racial divide in this country and all of the controversy surrounding it. Recently Jemele Hill, an ESPN anchor tweeted some very inappropriate comments about the President of the United States. This Trump news was not very surprising to hear as there seems to be an agenda by certain groups to condemn the president every chance they get. I think it is downright disrespectful toward the man who holds the highest elected office in our great country. It obviously shows a lot about their character and lack of respect for our country. You don’t have to like the man or woman in office but you should respect the office of the presidency.
In her tweets, she called President Trump a white supremacist that largely surrounds himself with white supremacists. In another tweet, she said that he is unqualified and unfit to be president and that if he were not white he never would have been elected. I had to laugh at that one. That is the epitome of being a racist which is a very big problem our nation is facing. I remember when Obama was elected as our president. If people openly stated they didn’t like him they were called racists. I’m sorry, but you can’t have it both ways. My mother always told me if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. This is something we should all practice more often.
Our country is now divided more than ever over racial issues and it is tearing our nation apart. It is pitting people against each other for no good reason. I certainly have faith that our great country can overcome this. Inappropriate comments are wrong on all sides and the people saying them should be held accountable. We should be teaching the younger generation how to be peaceful and respectful not how to promote hate.
